The South West coast of France is known for many things, its great food, great wines and its mild climate to mention a few. All of these are very true but for a surfer as much as we love our food and drink the main reason we head down to this region of France is; yes you guessed it.......the waves! The surf around Hossegor differs from the more northern spots mainly because of its powerful hollow barreling waves mainly due to a deep water trench way out in the Bay of Biscay known as 'The Fosse de Capbreton', this underwater river creates a powerfull flow of water that funnels full blown open ocean swells right onto the beaches in this particular region of France.
September and October are traditionaly the most consistant months for good swells and good weather, so its no surprise that its then that the some of the best surfers in the world decend into town. Having said that you will still receive waves of some form all year round and decent weather which makes this a excellent choice for any surfer at any time of the year.
