Situated around 100km off the West coast of Northern Africa the Canary Islands quite rightly have earned and still hold the reputation as 'The Hawaii of the Atlantic'. The Canaries are Made up of 7 main volcanic islands with the odd smaller ones dotted about which for years remained virtualy unknown to the majority of surfers with only the local surfers enjoying the fruits of the world class waves they had on their doorstep. Over the last 20 years or so that has changed dramaticly, it is now the destiation of choice for winter sun and waves.

The waves in the Canary Islands are like nowhere else in Europe, you can have long white sandy caribbean style beaches perfect for the beginner or more novice surfer and then just around the corner you can have the super heavy shallow volcanic rock points and reefs to challenge even the most advanced surfer. The islands boast an almost dry climate and with that comes year round sunshine, the best waves are for sure in the winter but being an chain of islands they are open to swell from all directions making it a worthwhile surftrip whatever time of the year.
